My name is Marcia (pronounced Mar-see'-ah) Lincoln. Since the 1960's, I kept and bred captive reptiles, primarily snakes. When that hobby faded away and raising poultry became the new obsession, I felt it fitting to name my hobby farm “Feathered Reptiles Farm”.
Like many people, I started with a few hatchery stock chickens for eggs. It soon became apparent to me, after learning of the poor conditions in which factory-farmed animals are raised, that I no longer wanted to eat eggs and meat from abused chickens. This led to 3 orders of chicks and poults from a hatchery: Cornish cross meat chicks, various breeds of egg layers, plus an order for 15 heritage turkey poults. That was in 2008 and started an upwards spiral of pen building and a learning curve which never seems to flatten.
Unlike most, I started breeding the heritage turkeys before I started breeding chickens. The turkeys, to me, are much more personable. However the lure of so many interesting breeds of chickens soon captured me and through bad luck and fortune combined, I found myself introduced to the world of Standard Bred poultry and showing poultry. No more awful Cornish cross meat birds. No more hatchery stock pure breed wannabes. I raise only Standard Bred large fowl and Heritage turkeys.
